These ‘snips’ are short reflections on philosophical matters. They do not offer philosophical arguments but rather viewpoints, (or should I say gropings?), that I have come to hold from thinking about stuff. Inevitably some beliefs seem to run counter to others, but I think learning to accommodate these tensions is just something that one has to do. Perhaps if we banish inconsistency we become the poorer for it?

Two consequences of looking after my wife with advanced Alzheimer’s Dementia have come about: Firstly I had to withdraw from my PhD programme in Philosophy. But I still think about philosophical matters - indeed the isolation that full-time caring inflicts has probably resulted in my dwelling on such matters all the more. And, secondly, I have become loathe to identify myself completely with any one person or cause or belief. I like to think about philosophical ideas much like how a hitchhiker views her next approaching lift, with anticipation but not knowing where she will be taken.
