On colour

There have been some wonderful colour photographers, Eggelston and Leiter to name just two. But I find that colour can detract from what I am trying to get across. So, I have always found colour photography to be difficult.

I find colour to be powerful when it’s used sparingly or in muted fashion or in minimalist compositions. Ewa Monika Zebrowski provides a good example of the ‘muted colour vibe. ’

A recent trip to Berlin found me searching for such images with colour film - Kodak Portra 400. Some are a little over-saturated for me but what they show is a minimalist colour palette which I find appealing.
